Advocates for Reproductive Justice on Prince Edward Island Launch National Day of Action: Equal Access Now!
Charlottetown, PE, October 15, 2012 — Members of PEI’s Abortion Rights Network (ARN) have joined with pro-choice advocates from across Canada to orchestrate a Pan-Canadian Day of Action for Reproductive Justice, with events to coincide across the country.
Who: Representatives of the PEI Reproductive Rights Organization (PRRO) will be joined by Dr. Colleen MacQuarrie, UPEI professor and a member of ARN, and Joyce Arthur, executive director of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC-CDAC), to announce the Day of Action, enumerate its demands, and discuss the reasons why PEI decision-makers must pay attention to its message.
What: ARCC has facilitated a nation-wide ad-hoc coalition to put together a Day of Action in which organizers, allies, and citizens can express their commitment to ensuring Canadian women’s reproductive rights are respected. PRRO has collaborated with the ad-hoc coalition to place the national spotlight squarely on PEI and its betrayal of women’s health. Putting pressure on the government’s embrace of the “status quo,” organizers have named the Day of Action’s number-one demand: PEI’s government must abide by the Canada Health Act and provide fully funded abortion services on the Island.
When: Friday, October 19th, 2012, 12:15 pm.
Where: Room 125, Royalty Centre
40 Enman Crescent, Charlottetown PEI.
